so here i am... nearly 10 on a thursday night, sitting in my room which is illuminated only by the glow of the computer screen. homework has been cast aside for the evening, for the simple reason that it's not due till tuesday. earlier this evening i joined the panther pacers in a scavenger hunt which had us running all around campus looking for the objects in the pictures each envelope at our destinations provided us with. prior to that was a meeting in the evasive purple pen room in the basement of mauker union. i call it evasive because shay and i passed right by it, and proceeded to explore the whole lower level of the building before ending up right back where we started, only this time noticing the correct room. three times a week, i step onto the turf of the unidome for a marching rehearsal that can range from beneficial to catastrophic, depending on the day and the drill we're running. math is surprisingly becoming one of my favorite classes. of course, it's "mathematical reasoning for elementary teachers" which means we cover topics like division, multiplication, addition, subtraction, fractions, and decimals. the key though, is that we must learn how to teach it, and to do so, we must understand the why of the procedures we are to teach. that is why i love it: all through highschool, i asked why to math teachers. and none could or would tell me. my math professor however, expects us to want to know, and expects us to have quick reflexes when it comes to developing word problems. on the last day of bandcamp, i was finally tagged with my trumpet nickname (a trumpet tradition). so to that section, i am now abbey. why you ask? that's just it: no one gets to know the meaning of their nickname. psychology is large and... a class? oral communications is much less terrifying than people made it out to be- in fact, i quite like it. we had a sort of debate (girls vs. guys) on both good and bad stereotypes of the opposite gender. quite intriguing i tell you. i have successfully gone for 3 weeks of marching band without having to dangle the trumpet keys off my horn. one bright side to galyen not knowing my name and referring to me as "blond chick". most days i want to strangle my visual perceptions instructor- especially when we were debating the definition of art. *growls loudly*. that aside, there are many people here, many worth knowing. i feel as though i've met a lot, but yet only met a few. marching band, panther pacers, and classes are great ways to meet people, and then perhaps scheduling some hang out time outside those structured times. saturday is our first football game that the band will march at- it's at the university of iowa- and yes, the band is traveling. (leaving at the insane hour of 6:40...) i'm pretty pumped and look forward to performing for the first time as a member of the panther marching band, one of 20 trumpets.
as much as i'd enjoy continuing, as there is much more that could be said about my life at college, i'm sure, i will spare you, the poor reader who chose to view this note, the trauma of having to read further.
so alas, goodnight my friends, and others whom may read this. (and no, i'm not actually going to bed, i'm just saying goodnight as a closing.)
